The 15th Golden Mask Festival will be held in Moscow from 27 March to 17 April 2009. The Awards Ceremony will be held on 18 April at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater.
In 2009, the national theatrical Golden Mask Prize and Festival will turn 15. Throughout the entire jubilee season, the Festival board will hold a series of traditional and completely new programs and theatrical projects. In autumn 2008 in Moscow, there were performances by the St. Petersburg Maly Drama Theater – Theater of Europe. Festivals of the best Russian productions were held in Perm, Voronezh, Estonia and Latvia.
Premieres of the Mariinsky Theater in Moscow will once more be shown in February-March 2009. On the project playbill are the opera “The Brothers Karamazov” (3-4 February), the ballet “The Glass Heart” (28 February) and an Evening of one-act ballets: “Carnival”, “The Prodigal Son”, “Symphony in C Major” (1 March).
The Golden Mask continues the project “Legendary productions and names of the 20th century”. This year will feature the productions “Push” by Sylvie Guillem and Russell Maliphant will be held (14-15 March), “Last Touch First” by Jiri Kylian (27-28 March), and “Impressing the Czar” by William Forsythe (29 March).
From 9-13 April, the program “Russian Case” will be held, and the schedule will be compiled by Elena Kovalskaya. In 2009 this Golden Mask program, which is addressed to foreign theater figures, will turn 10.
The 4th Theatrical market “PRO-Theater 2009” will be held from 3-5 April at the Central House of Artists on Krymsky Val. PRO-Theater-2009 will feature theaters, festivals and theatrical projects from Russia, CIS countries and Europe.
“Mask Plus” is the first attempt at a major program outside the competition of the Golden Mask. “Mask Plus” presents outstanding, unusual and uniquely wonderful productions from Russia, CIS countries and the Baltic States.
