The J. M. W. Turner Exhibition

Following the huge success of the Whistler and Russia Exhibition, jointly organised with the State Tretyakov Gallery with the backing of the Art and Sports Foundation, the British Council has initiated a new major exhibition, which will acquaint Muscovites and visitors to the capital with the masterpieces of British art.

This time the exhibition is dedicated to an eminent craftsman, whose works very rarely leave the walls of the Tate Britain: Joseph Mallord William Turner. More than 40 paintings will arrive in Moscow including his late and experimental works, which were not shown either during his lifetime or immediately after his death as they were considered incomplete and around 70 watercolour paintings from the Tate’s unique collection. For three months they will be exhibited at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Art; the exhibition will become part of the December Evenings Festival, where the music of English and other European composers, Turner’s contemporaries, will be performed.
