Buccellati. Art Outside Time
till January 10, 2009
Place: The Uspenskaya Belfry of the Moscow Kremlin
Organisers of the exhibition: The Museum of the Moscow Kremlin and the “Buccellati Holding Italy” corporation
The exhibition is dedicated to the works of the famous 20th century Italian gold- and silversmiths Mario (1891-1965) and his son Gianmaria Buccellati. The exhibition reflects the artistic phenomenon of the work of these Milan jewellers, who demonstrated high quality in their handwork and exceptional esthetics.
The exhibition will feature more than 150 items, including jewellery, cigarette cases, handbags, goblets and carved cups from semi precious stones. Today their works can be found in private and museum collections in Milan, Florence, the Smitsonovsky Institute and others. Mario Buccellati's work (which includes his silver pieces) is captivating, and clearly reflects influences from European art of the 15th-16th centuries, modern and art deco. An example of this was an ancient treasure containing silver cups from Ancient Rome, from a villa in Boscoreale not far from Pompeii, which became Mario Buccellati’s inspiration for the creation of “Eight Cups from Boscoreale” (1920-1926).
For the Museums of the Moscow Kremlin Mario and Gianmaria Buccellati's retrospective is yet another episode of the project which shows Muscovites the best European jewellers and jewellery houses of the 20th century.
