The 2008 "New Drama" festival

The 7th festival of modern plays “New Drama" will take place in Moscow from September 20th till 28th.

“New Drama” is a yearly festival of modern plays and a workshop for Russian playwrights, directors and actors. The festival is the brainchild of Edward Boyakov, Elena Gremina and Mikhail Ugarov. In 2002, their project received support from MKhT im. Chekhova and the association “Golden Mask”. The organizers of the 7th festival of modern plays "New Drama" are: the "Praktika" theatre and Teatr.doc, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

As it did in 2007, the festival will include the "New Drama. Best Play" drama contest. The jury for the contest is composed by: Lyubov Arkus (chief editor of the magazine “Séance”), Kama Ginkas (director), Ekaterina Degot' (art critic, curator), Tatyana Drubich (actress), Alexei D'yachkov (chief editor of the editorial "Korovaknigi"), Pavel Lungin (playwright, director), Sergei Selyanov (producer), Alvis Hermanis (director, head of the Novaya Rizhskaya Theatre). The shortlist for the contest features eight plays, chosen from the shortlists of leading drama contests in Russia and neighbouring countries. The competing plays will be read. The winner will be announced on the closing day of the festival.
