The theatre was founded in 1894 by request of the wealthy Gavrila Solodovnikov. Savva Mamontov’s first private opera in Russia was staged in this theatre. The “sold out” sign is always up in the Moscow operetta for shows like “Katrine”, “Jane” and “Julia Lambert”. The theatre’s season finishes on the 18th of June. Since the 90s, the theatre has been one of the main venues in Moscow for musicals: Premieres peformed there include “Metro”, “Notre-Dame de Paris” and “Romeo and Juliet”. At present, the theatre's repertoire consists of 8 operettas and 4 musicals.
